Work Visa
Work visas can be complicated due to various requirements for both the job role and its alignment with the ANZSCO job description. We will help you and your employer to gather all necessary documents and will explain how to prove that there are no New Zealanders available for the job being offered. Additionally, we assist employers in obtaining INZ employer accreditation and completing job checks, and provide guidance on advertising requirements.
Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV)
The AEWV is the most common work visa for people entering New Zealand to work. To apply for an AEWV, you must have a job offer from a New Zealand employer accredited by the government. Employers must first get accredited before a work visa application can be submitted. The employer will also need to get the job offer cleared by Immigration NZ (the “job check”) to prove there are no suitable NZ citizens or residents available.
Main Criteria:
– A genuine job offer from an accredited employer, paying at least the median wage (unless exempt).
– Proof of qualifications and experience for the job.
– Good health and character.
– Visa expiry usually linked to the pay rate.
– In some cases, the AEWV may lead to residency.
Three-Step Process:
- Employer Accreditation: The employer must be accredited by INZ before hiring a migrant worker on an AEWV.
- Job Check: The employer must apply to INZ for permission to hire a migrant worker by lodging a job check application.
- AEWV Application: Once the first two steps are successful, the migrant worker can apply for an AEWV work visa, valid for up to 5 years.

Skilled Migrant Resident visa
This is the most popular visa for those wanting to settle permanently in New Zealand.
The process has two stages:
- Expression of Interest (EOI): You need to score 6 points or more.
- Invitation to Apply (ITA): You must provide documents to prove everything you mentioned in the EOI.
How to Earn Points:
– NZ Professional Registration
– Qualifications
– Income
If you don’t reach 6 points through these, you can get up to 3 additional points for ‘skilled’ work experience in New Zealand. ‘Skilled’ work means ANZSCO 1-3 occupations paid at least the median wage or ANZSCO 4-5 occupations paid at 1.5 times the median wage.
You must have a full-time job or job offer from an accredited employer to apply for this visa.
The process can be technical and complicated, so many applicants use professional Immigration Advisers to avoid surprises.

The New Zealand government has created a “Green List” to fill labor shortages in key industries and attract skilled workers from overseas. If your job is on the Green List and you meet the required qualifications, registration, or experience, you might get residency immediately or after working in New Zealand for 2 years. Check the current Green List roles here.
